Capoeira Club Essex

We are based in Essex and East London, delivering Capoeira workshops and after-school clubs to primary schools across the region. The club is directed by Rui De Sousa (Molinha) and Maya Walters, and delivered by a growing team of experienced, DBS-checked Capoeira coaches.

Our coaches are known for their ability to connect with children of all ages and abilities. Sessions are structured and purposeful while staying genuinely fun from start to finish. Children do not realise how much they are learning.

We are part of the wider Capoeira Club network, active across London, Essex and internationally. Our long-term vision is to bring high-quality Capoeira coaching to as many schools as possible, with a team built to deliver consistently at every location.

Two ways to work together

Both can run independently or grow naturally from one into the other. Many schools start with an enrichment workshop and develop an ongoing club from there.

Option one

Enrichment Workshops

One-off or short programme sessions tied to your school calendar. Black History Month, Children’s Mental Health Week, Carnival Experience and more. Delivered by our experienced coaching team, all equipment provided.

Option two

After-School Clubs

Regular weekly sessions run directly at your school by one of our coaches. Breakfast, lunch or after-school. Term programmes with clear progression, grading events and a strong sense of belonging for every child.

Built around your calendar

Each programme is tailored to your school’s objectives and year groups. All materials and equipment are provided by us.

Black History Month

Students explore the history of Afro-Brazil through movement, storytelling and traditional rhythm. They discover the origins of Capoeira and the legend of Maculelê. Available as a 90-minute session, full day, or four-week programme with a showcase performance for families.

October

Children’s Mental Health Week

Movement, music and expression working together to support pupil wellbeing. Inclusive, uplifting and grounded in physical activity. Offered as a one-off workshop or four-week programme.

February

Capoeira Carnival Experience

Children learn Capoeira techniques, Portuguese songs and percussion over six weeks, building confidence and teamwork throughout. The programme ends with a joyful performance celebrating every child’s growth.

6 weeks

Capoeira Acrobatics Adventure

An empowering programme building strength, coordination and self-belief through acrobatic skills. Cartwheels, bridges, handstands, progressed step by step in a safe and inclusive environment. Ends in a showcase performance.

8 to 10 weeks

Health and PE Enrichment

Bespoke sessions supporting your physical education curriculum. We adapt to your timetable and year groups. A great fit for health weeks, active travel days or curriculum enrichment days.

Flexible

Hear it from the children

The best way to understand what we do is to see it. Here are our students in their own words.

What we bring to every session

Supports PE objectives

Directly supports physical development, coordination and active participation goals within your curriculum.

Builds confidence

Fully inclusive

Adapted to all abilities and year groups. No child is left out. Every session is designed so every child can participate.

Zero hassle for school

DBS checked, fully insured, all equipment provided. We handle everything so your staff do not need to.

Proven in schools

We have delivered programmes in primary schools across Essex and East London, with consistently strong feedback from staff, parents and pupils.

Heard from schools and parents

★★★★★

“For the last four years, my son has been working with Professor Molinha. He became much stronger and more athletic. Molinha is an old soul, very patient with kids. A true master in these modern days.”

Uzo  ·  Parent

★★★★★

“It is a real art to create classes that keep children as young as two engaged and learning for nearly an hour. There is clearly a lot of thought that goes into the class structure and it shows.”
