Rui, known in the Capoeira community as Professor Molinha, is our lead coach and sets the programme for all our classes, with over two decades of Capoeira training and 15 years teaching children. More than a sport

Capoeira is a complete experience. Martial art, dance, music and Afro-Brazilian culture rolled into one. Children build a whole set of skills without noticing, because they are having too much fun.

Words from our families

★★★★★

"It is a real art to create classes that keep children as young as 2 years old engaged, entertained and learning for nearly an hour. Coach Rui is a wonder. I could not recommend the children's classes more highly and am so grateful to have found Capoeira Club Essex."

Uzo

Parent, The Limes Centre, Chigwell

★★★★★

"Really fun instructor who is clearly made to teach kids. Mine settled immediately, love the classes, look forward to it all week, and keep practicing at home. Acrobatics, music, instruments, Portuguese, dance and martial art all at the same time. Such a complete sport, I highly recommend Mola's classes."

Amandine

Parent, Kids Capoeira

★★★★★

"For four years my son has worked with Professor Molinha, in group classes and private lessons. He became much stronger and more athletic, his coordination developed, and he has a great sense of rhythm playing berimbau and pandeiro. Molinha is an old soul, very patient with kids. I feel very lucky my son spends time with such an amazing individual, a true master."

Capoeira workshop in a primary school

Things parents
ask us

When do classes run?
Classes run in line with the school term: September to December, January to April, and May to July. We take a short break during school holidays. Check the term strip near the top of this page for this term's final date.
What should my child wear to a trial?
Comfortable, loose clothing and a bottle of water. No shoes needed. Capoeira is trained barefoot.
Do you have a uniform?
Our starter pack includes a Club T-shirt. We recommend adding the Capoeira trousers, available on our website. Trousers are advised for training and mandatory for our annual grading event.
Can parents watch?
Unfortunately not. Our space policy does not allow parents to stay for the full session. We do allow a short period at the start if your child feels nervous on their first class.
Are your coaches qualified?
All our coaches hold up-to-date DBS checks, safeguarding certificates and first-aid certification. Rui and Maya bring 40 years of combined experience in Capoeira and children's coaching.
Do you offer private sessions?
Yes, for children who would like more focused one-to-one training or to prepare for grading. See our private coaching page for details, or get in touch and we will talk you through it.
